In 1968, ADCO acquired and began managing the historic Western Furniture Exchange and Merchandise Mart in San Francisco. Located at 1355 Market Street in the heart of the city, this building, built in 1937 and comprising 760,000 square feet, remains a stunning example of California Art Deco architecture. In 1974, ADCO developed a second building of 330,000 square feet adjacent to the original property as an annex to accommodate the growing furniture business. Over 40 years of ownership, ADCO modernized the property and adjusted the tenant mix to suit economic conditions.

Most recently, ADCO developed a repositioning plan, rebranded the combined complex as Market Square, and introduced Twitter to its new headquarters at the property, setting the stage as San Francisco’s new high-tech hub. In 2011, ADCO completed a transaction with Shorenstein Properties LLC, , while retaining a continuing economic interest in the venture. Shorenstein executed a first class renovation, realizing ADCO’s vision and revitalizing the surrounding neighborhood.
